Leave No Trace Canada is committed to protecting your privacy. We promise that we will take steps to use your personal information only in ways that are compatible with this Privacy Policy. The following policies are only in effect for the web pages, newsletters, discussion lists and opt-in announcement lists owned and operated by Leave No Trace Canada.
When a visitor requests a page from any Web site within Leave No Trace Canada, our Web servers automatically recognise that visitor’s domain name and IP address. The domain name and IP address reveal nothing personal about you other than the IP address from which you have accessed our site. We use this information to examine our traffic in aggregate, but do not collect and evaluate this information for individuals.
When visitors contact us through our website we collect the data shown in the form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help detect and prevent internet spam. When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to also help with spam detection.
If you upload images to the website (member or partner profiles), you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
We may also request your e-mail address or mailing address for the purposes of conducting a survey or to provide additional services (for example, subscriptions to e-mail newsletters, announcement lists or information about workshops etc.) Whenever we request the identity of a visitor, we will clearly indicate the purpose of the inquiry before the information is requested. In addition, Leave No Trace Canada will not send you email that you have not agreed to receive. You may unsubscribe at any time.
Leave No Trace Canada uses reasonable precautions to keep the information disclosed to us secure. We do not intend to sell, rent, or otherwise give your e-mail address to a third-party. Please note that we will release specific personal information about you if required to do so in order to comply with any valid legal process such as a search warrant, subpoena, statute, or court order.
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users and Leave No Trace Canada members can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time. Website administrators can also see and edit that information, most often at your request. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
By using our website, you consent to the collection and use of information by us as specified above. If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on this page so that you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances we disclose it.
